Nominasi Golden Globe 2023, Dominasi The Banshees of Inisherin

The Banshees of Inisherin, sebuah cerita komik yang kelam tentang persahabatan yang terpecah saat perang saudara di Irlandia, memimpin nominasi Golden Globe 2023. Film tersebut memiliki delapan nominasi, termasuk best picture di genre musical dan komedi sekaligus sutradara terbaik dan screenplay terbaik untuk Martin McDonagh.

Sedangkan di posisi kedua sebagai film pemegang nominasi terbanyak adalah film science fiction tentang multiverse, Everything Everywhere All at Once dengan enam nominasi.

Sedangkan The Fabelmans, film semi autobiografi tentang masa kecil sutradara Steven Spielberg, Babylon, film tentang masa film diam Hollywood, dan Elvis, film biografi tentang bintang rock legendaris, ketiganya meraih lima nominasi

Beberapa tahun yang lalu, dinominasikan untuk Golden Globe ditandai sebagai pertanda penghargaan lainnya. Sebuah sinyal siapa saja yang akan dinominasi dan tidak dinominasi pada Oscar atau penghargaan lainnya.

Berbeda dengan Oscar, Golden Globe membedakan komedi dan musical dengan drama, membuat banyaknya kategori pemenang. Best Picture untuk drama meliputi The Fabelmans dan Elvis (yang tidak dikategorikan sebagai film musical meski mengandung 2 jam content musik), begitu juga dengan film indie Tar, yang menceritakan tentang pelecehan seksual di dunia musik klasik.

Dua film hit yang diharapkan memeriahkan sinema setelah pandemi, Top Gun: Maverick dan Avatar: The Way of Water juga dinominasikan.

Untuk kategori best comedy atau musical, The Banshees of Inisherin, Babylon, Everything Everywhere all at Once, Triangle of Sadness, dan Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery akan saling memperebutkan posisi pemenang.

Abbot Elementary, serial sitcom tentang guru dan murid di sekolah negeri Philadelphia, mendapatkan nominasi terbanyak dari serial TV dengan total enam nominasi. Termasuk di dalamnya best television series (musical atau komedi), juga untuk sang kreator Quinta Brunson.

Lima serial TV — The White Lotus, Dahmer, The Crown, Pam & Tommy, and Only Murders in the Building — mendapatkan masing-masing empat nominasi.

Ada berbagai kejutan di nominasi kali ini. Will Smith, yang namanya tercoreng akibat pukulannya pada Chris Rock pada acara penghargaan Oscar lalu, disingkirkan dari kategori best actor untuk performanya di film Emancipation.

Spin-off dunia Tolkien dari Amazon, Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power juga tak mendapatkan satupun nominasi.

Tetapi yang patut diapresiasi adalah banyaknya hasil karya kreator wanita yang dinominasikan di dunia yang didominasi sutradara pria. Sarah Polley (Woman Talking), Gina Prince Bytheood (The Woman King) adalah salah satu yang dinominasikan.
